Household Lubricants

graphite powder
 - traditionally used to lubricate locks
 - still works well
 - don't use outdoors
 - PTFE is better
WD-40
 - "water displacement"
 - actually a DEgreaser
 - very thin
   - works as a lube, but very temporary solution because it drips away
      - even water will work as a lubricant for a short time!
   - decent penetrating oil
Lithium grease
 - great all around grease for medium loads
 - Petroleum jelly can substitute
 - provides cusion
 - stays greasy

PTFE
 - spray on Teflon
 - dry lubricant, does not collect dust
 - pen oiler

Silicone
  - extremely slippery
 - causes problems with paint
    - be mindful of overspray
 - dry or wet
Penetrating oil
 - unsticks stuck fasteners
 - WD-40 is okay, but PB Blaster is better
Bees Wax
 - wood drawers
 - wood windows
 - skis
